Rybinsk
Rybinsk

In the past, a city of barge haulers, and the fish and grain trade. The revenue of the Rybinsk Grain Exchange in the 19th century was similar to that of the largest in the world, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Now it is a city of shipbuilders, hydroelectric power and aircraft engine manufacturers. A beautifully decorated art museum overlooking the embankment is located in the former Grain Exchange building. The museums’ inventory includes a large collection of masterpieces of Count Musin-Pushkin. The monumental sculpture “Mother Volga” oversees the water gates to the Rybinsk sea. The town’s most majestic landmark is Spaso-Preobrazhensky (Transfiguration of the Saviour) Cathedral, an architectural replica of St. Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg.
