You can also rent bikes to explore the island on your own. Don’t miss the Negotiation Stone and other attractions of the island. We also recommend an amazing boat trip across the lake and river canals of Solovki. There are more than 400 lakes on Solovki with considerably different water levels. The construction of Solovetsky monastery resulted in the growth of the population and a corresponding increase in demand for potable water. The lack of rivers forced the settlers to connect lakes with canals. The canal system was started by the abbot Philippe (1548-1566) about 400 years ago. 78 lakes have been connected into a single Drinking Water System which feeds the Holy Lake. The distance from the tourist office to the boat station is 2.8 km. Pella rowing boats for up to 5 people are available there. Sea trip by speedboat to Big Zayatsky Island. The unique attractions of the island are the largest pagan sanctuary of the first and second millennia BC, stone labyrinths, a pagan religious complex, the first stone harbor of Russia, and the monuments of the Andreevsky Hermitage. Tour length – 3 hours.
Please note: travel time from Big Solovetsky island to Big Zayatsky is 45 minutes. The excursion is possible only in good weather conditions, without a storm warning.

2) Walking tour “Villages of Kizhi Island”. A fascinating trip to the central part of the island to visit the ancient Kizhi villages Yamka and Vasilyevo. In the Vasilyevo village, you will see the largest and most beautiful wooden house of the island, richly decorated with carvings, the Mother of God Assumption chapel, and climb the Naryina Mount - the highest point of the island. In the village of Yamka you will explore one of the 19th century houses and learn about the peasant life of the past, as well as the experiences of the Zaonezhie villagers today.
