The city, submerged in the water, reminds us of the story of the legendary Kitezh. Modern Kalyazin is only a small fraction of the historical Kalyazin, submerged by the waters of the Uglich Water Reservoir. The chapel from The Nikolsky Cathedral in the heart of the city is the only building remaining, though it is the most popular tourist attraction not just for Kalyazin, but also all for the whole area from Dubna to Uglich. Now-a-days the town is quite small, but once it was a major trading center and rich monastery in the north-western borders of Muscovy.
