Gorodets — one of the oldest Russian settlements on the Middle Volga. Some legends claim that it was founded in 1152 by Prince Yuri Dolgorukiy, other say in 1172. Gorodets is a town and administrative center in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, located on the left bank of the Volga river, 53 km to the north of Nizhny Novgorod and 14 km to the east of the railway station Zavolzhye (final stop to Nihzny Novgorod Hydroelectric station).
