Ulianovsk
Simbirsk was renamed in 1924 in honor of its inhabitant Lenin (real name Ulyanov). It was founded in the 17
th century as a fortress to protect the eastern borders of the Muscovite state from nomad raids. The city has preserved fragments of building from the turn of the 20
th century and has a stunning location on the high right bank of the Kuibyshev Reservoir. The main attractions are associated with the Soviet period and the name of Lenin.
